Wednesday, Apr 26, 2006
The Lexington chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners yesterday awarded Virginia Fox, secretary of the Kentucky Education Cabinet, its Winner's Circle award.
"You don't know how in awe of you I am," Fox told the business owners as she accepted the award, which honors a Kentucky woman for leadership, financial acumen, community contributions, problem-solving and support of women in business.
The award was given at yesterday's Women Partnering for Success conference, which combined the former Women Mean Business conference, sponsored by the Kentucky Small Business Development Centers, with the NAWBO Winner's Circle Awards luncheon.
Nancy Pounds, owner of Lexington's High Intensity Training Center, was named Woman Business Owner of the Year. The franchise helps clients lose weight and improve their fitness and athletic performance.
Danette Wilder, owner of Lonzoton Integration Technologies, was named New Woman Business Owner of the Year. Her company, founded in 2004, provides engineering technology consulting.
NAWBO also awarded attorney Tricia Shackelford the Public Policy Award and PR Enterprises President Pam Larson the Equipoise Award.
Karen Wilson, an independent senior sales director for Mary Kay, was named NAWBO Member of the Year, and Annette's Catering was named Corporate Partner of the Year.
